AB - Investigations of the vaginal secretion of 12 women with trichomoniasis, conducted before and after vaccination with the anti-trichomonal vaccine SolcoTrichovac, showed in 8 cases a 1.34 to 5.05-fold increase in the specific IgA. Accordingly, no tricho-monads could be found in these cases in wet smear preparations taken 2 weeks after the third vaccination. In 1 patient showing an unchanged IgA concentration after vaccination, trichomonads were no longer detectable. 3 patients failed to respond to the vaccination.

AB - The immune response to vaccination with SolcoTrichovac. a vaccine against trichomoniasis, was studied in 97 women with trichomonad colpitis. In almost all the cases an increase in specific serum agglutinins was found. The geometric mean of these titres increased from 1:56.4 before the vaccination to 1:320 after the vaccination, and it was still 1:140 1 year later. The dynamics of the serological immune response correlated with the clinical efficacy of this new vaccine.

AB - The vaginal secretion of 36 patients with trichomonas colpitis was investigated before, during and after the course of vaccination with SolcoTrichovac, for changes in the bacterial flora. All the patients responded to the vaccination and all became free of trichomonads. The vaginal flora, which had initially been pathological in all the patients, showed remarkable changes in some of the cases.

AB - During a smallpox epidemic in Yugoslavia in 1972, a number of pregnant women were vaccinated against smallpox. A virological study was undertaken, by attempting the isolation of vaccinia virus from embryonal tissues obtained by curettage. Embryonal tissues from 150 women vaccinated during early pregnancy were pooled in 15 pools. As controls, 50 specimens of embryonal tissues were obtained from nonvaccinated pregnant women and they were pooled in 5 pools. Inoculation of the embryonal tissue pools on chorioallantoic membranes (CAM) of chicken embryos detected the presence of vaccinia virus in one pool out of 15 pools consisting of the embryonal tissues obtained from vaccinated pregnant women. The vaccinia virus was identified by the appearance of infected CAMs, by electron microscopy, and by the neurtralization test. In 3 pools (2 from the vaccinated group and 1 from the nonvaccinated control group) herpesviruses were isolated in CAM. The finding of poxvirus vacciniae in one pool of embryonal tissues indicated the infection of an embryo during early pregnancy. The frequency of such an event is considered to be lower than 1%, and the outcome of pregnancy could not be predicted.

AB - Both humoral immunity and intestinal resistance in a group of children were followed 2 to 6 yr after primary immunization in Ivanjica, a small community in Serbia. A significant decrease in antibody titers was found for all 3 types of polioviruses, especially marked for type 3, 2 to 3 yr after primary immunization, where in approximately 20% of the examined persons it decreased to less than 1:4. After 4 to 5 yr the same trend was noticed. Intestinal resistance was examined 2, 3 and 6 yr after primary immunization in a group of 129 children. 36% of the children boostered with type one or trivalent vaccine could be reinfected, 46% of those revaccinated with type 2 or trivalent vaccine were susceptible and 41% of children refed type 3 or trivalent vaccine responded with virus excretion or antibody increase.
